CNU students' Overseas Volunteer Activities

CNU students have actively participated in various overseas volunteer programs during the 2019 summer vacation.

For instance, from August 5 to 19, 106 students from 21 volunteer teams went across borders to 14 different countries such as Spain, Laos, Mexico, Kenya, and others for programs led by professors or affiliated with international work organizations. One of the overseas volunteer teams which is led by Professor Oh Ki-seok of the College of Veterinary Medicine organized 10 days program of Korean language and K-Pop education programs as well as teaching ‘Arirang’, origami, and English nursery rhymes at cultural centers and kindergartens in An Khanh and ethnic minority villages in Sapa, Vietnam.

The volunteer team bound for Italy cooperated with an international charity work organization to carry out volunteer activities in the field. These projects included ecosystem conservation and wildlife habitat restoration programs in Casentinesi National Park. In addition, the volunteer team in Spain participated in an excavation project within a local village cave. The Mexico team carried out sea turtle protection campaigns, while the Kenya team helped out with farming, building repairs, cleanup, and children's education.

The Nepal team, which was organized by the participating students on their own, went to Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Patan to promote Korean culture by teaching Korean children’s songs. The Malaysian team ran Korean culture education programs in Kuala Lumpur. Finally, the Japan team participated in gatherings and demonstrations in Toyama and Nagoya on behalf of the victims of the Women's Labor Corps during the Japanese occupation period. The activists demanded due compensation from Fujikoshi, one of the companies allegedly responsible for the forced labor.
