CNU’s Kiwi Export Research Project obtained international certifications for Jeju kiwi fruits firstly in Korea, thus expanding the export route to Japan.

According to CNU, Jeju kiwi fruit acquired the 'Global G. A. P,' an international certification for the best scientific certification system. It was developed in the European Union to establish the standard of production of safe fresh fruits and vegetables in line with consumer needs.

The CNU Kiwi Export Research Group (Director: Professor Cho Jeong-ahn) has assisted with the certification procedure of eighteen farmers from Jeju Nonghyup and Jeju Halla Gold Farming Cooperation over the past 8 months. The certification criteria include comprehensive nutrient management, pest control, safety and hygiene management, and management of orchard and packing facilities in accordance with HACCP standards. The farmers successfully satisfied the international certification standards and received the certification on December 19, 2019.

The Kiwi Export Research Group was selected for the 2018 Research Project by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs and has received 2.3 billion KRW for 5 years to develop an export strategy and technology for Korean kiwi fruits. Following the successful case of the Jeju kiwi fruit, the Group plans to also develop an export strategy for kiwi fruit from Boseong, Jeonnam this year.

Along with kiwis, CNU is participating in the “Export Strategic Technology Development Project” of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs as it is researching and developing export strategies for several agricultural and stock farming industries such as pears and pet dogs.
