One of CNU’s research-based spin-offs developed a hand sanitizer that was found to be 99.9% effective in inactivating the novel human coronavirus.

According to Bio3S Co., Ltd. (Professor Kim Du-woon, Division of Food Technology, Biotechnology & Agrochemistry), a research-based spin-off co-founded by CNU and also affiliated with the Korea Basic Science Institute, Noro-X, the hand sanitizer Bio3S developed, received a certificate of efficacy from the Korea Zoonosis Research Institute on February 17th. In the antiviral test of the active ingredients of the disinfectant solution, Noro-X was proven to be 99.9% effective against corona virus (hCoV-229E).

'Noro-X' is a hand sanitizer that neutralizes or washes out viruses by binding them with a vegetable protein called 'con A' extracted from sword bean. It has ranked among the top 100 in national research and development projects (2017) and obtained a new technology certification (NET. 2018) from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs in recognition of its excellence in extracting technology without toxicity and purification technology.

Bio3S Co., Ltd. has fulfilled social responsibilities by donating Noro-X for international events such as the 18th FINA World Championship Gwangju 2019 and the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics 2018 for safer international gatherings. It also donated 1,000 Noro-X to CTS (Christian Television Station) on February 27th to help underprivileged people suffering from COVID-19.
