The Council of the Korean Flagship National University (Chair person: President Kim Sang-dong, Kyungpook National University) held its second meeting of 2020 at CNU on May 8.

The Council discussed shared issues, such as the treatment of lecturers, amendments to the National School Establishment Ordinance, a payment for employment expenses for public officials with disabilities, and compensation for loss and additional expenses due to COVID-19. Members agreed to further the communication with the Ministry of Education on ideas for mutual benefit and improvement.

Starting the meeting, CNU President Jeong Byung-seok stated, “We hoped to be way more light-hearted after mitigating the force of the infectious disease by solidarity and cooperation and now we are welcoming May in a better condition. To commemorate the May 18 Democratization Movement, where students and professors of nationwide universities participated, CNU has built the ‘Path of Democratization’ that connects the memorial spaces on the university campus. Please give extra attention and support to these efforts to commemorate the 40th anniversary of May 18.”

Presidents of nine national flagship universities and Seoul National University, the Policy Manager of Higher Education in the Ministry of Education, and the Secretary General of the Korean Council for University Education attended the meeting.

The next council is scheduled to be held at Kyungpook National University in August, and if the situation does not allow for the face-to-face meetings, an online conference will be held.
