A research team at CNU developed an artificial intelligence (AI) model using a clothing-related database. The application can recommend clothes tailored to consumer tastes in online shopping malls.

According to CNU, the AIS (Artificial Intelligence Stylist) team won third prize in the 2020 ETRI Self-Improving AI Development Competition. The research team consisted of Professor Do Wol-hee (Department of Clothing and Textiles), who was the principal investigator, Professor Kim Kyung-baek (Department of AI Convergence), acting as the senior researcher, and Dr. Choi Cheol-woong (Department of AI Convergence) working as the team’s researcher. The research team submitted an AI model that recommends clothing in accordance with the requirements of users using FASCODE (FAShion COordination DatasEt / FAShion CODE), a data set developed by ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute).

Hosted by ETRI and Selectstar, the competition is for self-learning and self-improving AI technology ideas. Winners of the contest are determined by ranking on the leaderboard designed in accordance with the weighted Kendall's tau (WKT) evaluation index. It was conducted in the form of a challenge.

Professor Do has conducted related research and published a paper on the classification of human body shapes through artificial neural network-based machine learning in 2018 in Fibers and Polymers (a SCI-level journal).
