CNU established the College of AI Convergence on September 1 to prepare for the new era of the fourth industrial revolution, which is represented by AI technologies.

It has been 15 years since CNU last established a new college. The new college will provide four multi-disciplinary majors in robotics, future energy, big data-based finance, and IoT artificial intelligence. CNU will add multi-disciplinary majors, which are closely related to the strategic industry for the future of Gwangju and Jeonnam, such as next generation vehicles, health care industries, culture technology (CT), start-up businesses in agriculture and farming, and urban regeneration.

The faculty of the College of AI Convergence is composed of experts from the College of Engineering, the College of Business Administration, the College of Nature Sciences, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and the College of Law. CNU plans to recruit experts in the field of AI and big data. The state-of-the-art curriculum will be introduced, such as problem-based learning, flipped learning, and social lab and design thinking.

CNU has been proactively responding to the government's policy to cultivate AI professionals. Last year, it opened its first major in the convergence area and 170 students are in the program. It is providing a Nano Degree Program, a cooperative expert certification course with KT, which is an AI specialized education, to over 80 people. This year, CNU was selected to establish one of the three graduate schools of convergence security in the country.

President Jeong said, “When the AI integrated complex is established in Gwangju, the industrial environment and demand for high-quality talent in the region will face a watershed moment. The CNU College of AI Convergence will be a platform for industrial innovation in Gwangju and Jeonnam”.
