CNU’s book reading campaign, Gwangju-Jeonnam Read & Talk conducted a book tour as part of this year’s project.

A total of 280 people, including local residents of Gwangju, Jeonnam Province, and the participants of this program joined the book tour on November 1 along with people from seven universities in the Gwangju and Jeonnam area: CNU, Gwangju Women's University, Nambu University, Mokpo Catholic University, Mokpo National University, Suncheon National University, and Chodang University. Participants visited the Gunsan Modern History Museum, Chae Man-sik Museum, and the 100th Anniversary Memorial Hall of the March First Declaration of Independence.

As the setting of Takrye, Chae Man Sik's major novel and most renowned piece of work, Gunsan has become a center of modern cultural heritage, while it suffered from severe exploitation during the period of Japanese Occupation, which makes the city very special in the history of Korea and its literature.

The Book Tour, as a major part of the campaign, is an annual program for facilitating better understanding of the social and cultural backgrounds of literary works, enhancing knowledge in literature, and promoting bibliophilia by visiting the memorial halls of writers and exploring related sites. In particular, from this year, Gwangju and Jeonnam regional university libraries will jointly operate the program to build a cooperative system and strengthen their roles in local cultural communities.

Furthermore, CNU is calling for book reviews from local residents until December 10 and will hold a Book Quiz Contest in December.
