CNU held the opening ceremony for the CNU Democracy Trail on May 18th to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the May 18 Democratization Movement, with over 200 people including professors, students, staff, those who contributed to democratic movements, their family members, and heads of major institutions, including CNU President Jeong and President Park Seung-hyeon of the CNU Alumni Association, in attendance.

The ceremony consisted of celebratory messages from bereft family members and social leaders including officers from the May 18 Foundation. After the introduction to the Democracy Trail, the participants took a walk down the trail.

President Jeong said at the ceremony that the “CNU Democracy Trail is a pledge to commemorate the spirit of CNU, which bore witness to many historical moments. It is also an expression of our willingness to inherit the tradition of upholding democracy. We take our first steps on the CNU Democracy Trail today, hoping that at the end of this road, we can find a harmonious community where we work and live together based on solidarity and community spirit, and the foundation of coexistence and prosperity.”

The CNU Democracy Trail is a 5-kilometer trail that connects 11 memorial spaces and symbols of democratization movements scattered around the campus. It consists of 'The Road of Justice,' 'The Road of Human Rights,' and 'The Road of Peace.' It is expected to be shared as a space for local culture, leisure, and communication for residents and students.

The CNU Democracy Trail Sponsorship (Chairperson: Kim Sang-yoon), which will support the management and operation of the CNU Democracy Trail, also marked its establishment on that day.
