CNU Selected to Receive Financial Aid for E-learning Support Center

- A Network connecting 137 bodies (36 universities, 11 public organizations, 41 enterprises, and 50 research institutes in Gwangju and Jeonnam) established - \"E-learning Support Center\" to strengthen the higher and lifelong educations systems on the basis of industrial clusters in Gwangju and Jeonnam Under the policy of the Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development to activate e-learning, CNU was selected to receive financial aid from the ministry and spend the money on the implementation of e-learning services from this year through 2009. Keeping pace with technological developments, the government, schools and information technology corporations are working to bring Internet-based and e-learning education within the reach of primary and secondary educational institutions. The Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development has launched an e-learning project by designating about elementary, middle and high schools nationwide as pilot project schools. The IT-related corporations will provide the technological infrastructure including personal computers and server systems. CNU
s e-learning support center will promote its specialization projects based on cultural and industrial sectors. By making use of e-learning contents developed by the e-learning support center, colleges, elementary/middle/high schools, public institutions, research institutes, and corporations can strengthen their own innovative capacities. The sub-categorized implementation plans will be national university merging, lifelong education, joint research projects led by universities and educational administration offices, on-line learning school for educating teachers, and an educational hub project. s four strategic industries (cultural design industry, photonics, digital appliance industry, and high-tech component automobile industry) and Jeonnam Province
s four major industries (tourism, bio-industry, new material shipping industry, and logistics) will be established. For the operation of e-learning support center, a total of 137 organizations (36 universities, 8 public administration offices, 41 enterprises including KIA Motors, Daewoo Electronics, and Samsung Electronics, and 50 research institutes such as NURI) participated in the consortium. The e-learning support center will be constructed in the educational technology building on the floor space of 1,280㎡. The center equipped with a studio-type lecture room, a video camera system, a learning support integrated system, and an editing transmission system will develop a variety of contents for online lectures. According to the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development, a total of 15 university consortiums applied for the financial aid. Of them, Kangwon National University and Yeungnam University were selected along with CNU.
