“I will exert myself to strengthen the function of education, to revitalize the graduate school by changing paradigm, culture, and system of the School.” “I look forward as Dean of the Graduate School to strengthening education in order to make the School an institution of higher learning for the next generation.” Prof. Kim Yoon-soo, 56, in the Division of Forest Resources and Landscape Architecture, was inaugurated as Dean of the Graduate School on February 1, 2005. He introduced his strategic initiatives for the development of the Graduate School as a place for education, not just as a place for research activities. He said at his inauguration speech, \"I will actively seek measures for the development of CNU Graduate School as the educational stronghold, not just as the stronghold of research centers. I will endeavor to change paradigm, culture, and system of the School and make the School recovering its own function as an educational institution.” In laying out his vision of the School
s top priorities, Dean Kim began \"with the goal of admitting the most qualified students and making them experts in their study fields.\" The second is to provide students access \"to the research opportunities that arise from CNU
s position as a leading research university in Korea.\" Dean Kim, a regular member of the Korea Academy of Science and Technology (KAST), also called ‘Hallimwon,’ has contributed to national development by promoting science and technology through active participation of its member scientists and engineers who have demonstrated professional excellence domestically and internationally in their respective fields. Dean Kim started to teach at CNU in 1984 and is recognized as a leading scholar in his research field. In 1998, he was appointed to the fellowship of the International Academy of Wood Science. He was the first scholar to be appointed to the fellowship in Korea. He serves as an editor of the International Association of Wood Anatomists (IAWA) Journals and chair of a division of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO).
