CNU Yeosu University-Industry Convergence Campus opened under the slogan of “cooperation of academia and industries to conduct research, train talents with practical skills, and develop technologies to reinvigorate regional industries.”

CNU held the opening ceremony and celebration party for the completion of the University-Industry Convergence Complex at the Yeosu University-Industry Convergence Campus on September 24. It was attended by 200 guests including CNU professors and students, President Jeong, Yoon Byeong-tae, the Vice Governor for the Administration of Jeonam Province, Park Gun-soo, the Senior Chief of the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, Kwon Oh-bong, the Mayor of Yeosu city, and Ju Seung-young, the Speaker of the National Assembly.

The CNU Yeosu University-Industry Convergence Campus consists of classrooms, laboratories, as well as a library, club rooms, and a student cafeteria on approximately 9,400㎡ at 426 Jusam-dong, Yeosu. It will play a role in the sustainable development of Yeosu Industrial Complex by providing a harmonious environment of employment, production, education, and culture. In addition, more than 150 research personnel from 50 companies will be located in the Corporate Research Institute, which is connected with the campus for joint research and development with universities.

This new CNU Campus has been offering regular degree programs such as lectures and hands-on training for 200 students in five departments (majors) in both the petrochemical and industrial plant fields.

The Convergence Campus will provide a 'Worker’s Lifelong Learning Program', which includes employment-related programs and re-education specialized programs as well as customized education for the demand of industries while creating employment opportunities combined with degree programs. It also offers ‘Field-centered Education for the R&D Field’, which provides training programs for competent engineers and programs for reinforcing productivity and the manufacture of quality products.

The CNU Yeosu University-Industry Convergence Campus was established by the governmental project run by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, which founded thirteen university-industry convergence campuses nationwide. It was established by joint investment between the government, Jeonnam Province, Yeosu city, and CNU.

President Jeong stated, “Like globally prestigious universities in Germany, the United States, and Europe, CNU will remove obstacles regional industries face with joint efforts, improve the competence of local industries, and ultimately create a virtuous cycle based on the reinvigoration of the local economy that results in more employment in the regions and better workplaces for CNU graduates.”
