CNU Selected as a Leading Regional University

CNU was selected for the '2019 Leading Regional University Fostering Project,' which supports cooperation among local governments, public institutions, and universities for further contributions to nation’s  professional mobilization structure by introducing customized talent training employment.

According to CNU, it was selected for the regional cooperation section of the '2019 Regional Leading University Fostering Project’ governed by the Ministry of Education. It will receive 5 billion KRW (1 billion KRW a year through 2018 years) to cooperate and lead local communities in fostering smart convergence talent, covering specific fields such as energy, smart agriculture, urban regeneration, and ICT. It also will develop and conduct various linkage cooperation projects with local governments and public institutions.

CNU has established a consortium with Sunchon National University, Mokpo National University, Honam University, and Dongshin University as well as local governments of Gwangju Metropolitan City, Naju, and South Jeolla Province. The consortium also cooperates with seven public institutions: the Korea Electric Power Corporation, KEPCO KPS, KEPCO KDN, Korea Rural Fisheries Corporation, Korea Agriculture and Fisheries Food Distribution Corporation, Korea Agriculture and Forestry Food Technology Evaluation Institute, and the Korea Communication Agency.

CNU plans to build a regional talent training system through the cooperation of these participants in various subject areas, extra-curricular education, field training, and customized education.

The ‘Leading Regional University Project’ has selected universities from twelve regions to encourage cooperation among local universities, local governments, public institutions, and local industries for talent training and customized employment, with the goal of contributing to local development. It also aims to help meet a legal requirement for public institutions relocated to these regions to hire 30% of their total employees from the local talent pool through 2022. The leaders of the twelve consortiums are as follows: CNU, Kangwon National University, Gyeongsang National University, Pusan National University, and Ulsan University.
