Despite the unprecedented situation in which universities from all over the country are opening with on-line remote classes, the 'Red Apricot of CNU', which is known as one of the five Honam Red Apricots, is showing off its beauty, soothing the emptiness of the under-populated campus.

As the flower blossomed in full bloom, photographers and citizens from all over the country, flocked from last weekend while students, professors, and staff stopped on their way and fell into the beautiful and bright scenery the flowers make and took pictures of them.
The 'Red Apricot of CNU' was originally a present from Emperor Heejong of the Ming Dynasty of China for Wolbong Go Bu-cheon, who visited the Ming as Jinmoonsaseosanggwon in 1621. The tree was planted and had grown in his hometown in Damyang before his 11th descendant, Professor Go Jae-cheon brought and planted it in the CNU campus. It had been planted in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, where Professor Go was the Dean before it was replanted in front of the Minjumaru in 1976.

The red apricot blossom, which turns red every year from the end of March to early April, is one of the representative symbols of CNU and one of the five red apricots in Honam with ▲ Gyedangmae in Jisil Village in Damyang ▲ Gobulmae in Baekyangsa Temple in Jangseong ▲ Baekmae in Sunamsa Temple in Suncheon ▲ Sooyangmae in Sorokdo in Goheung.
