Eighteen universities in Gwangju and Jeonnam including CNU chose the book of the year for their reading campaign: Wide and Shallow Knowledge for Intellectual Conversation: Zero written by Chae Sa-jang.

CNU held a ceremony to promote the book of the year during its anniversary ceremony on June 8th.

This book contains fundamental knowledge people need to have before they have an intellectual conversation. This book is the follow-up in a series beginning with Wide and Shallow Knowledge for Intellectual Conversation, which was published in the winter of 2014 and became a best seller.

Chae Sa-jang stated, "I wrote this book to share the joy of intellectual conversation and to communicate with people around me with common interests on wide and shallow topics."

Previously, CNU selected five candidate books through the Book of the Year Committee composed of professors, journalists, and experienced librarians in March, and then took a vote directly from local communities for five weeks from April 22nd to May 27th to finally select the book of the year.

The CNU Library (Director Chang Woo-kwon) will hold related programs for the best book of 2020, including a public discussion with the author (September), reading club activities (July-December), a themed book exhibition (September), a book exchange exhibition (September), a literature tour (October), a book review competition (November), and a book quiz (December).
