Universities, regional governments, and public institutions in Gwangju and the Jeonnam area launched a regional network to share resources of universities and contribute to the mutual development of local organizations and the solving of community problems.

According to CNU, on February 13 (Wednesday), twenty organizations and institutions located in Gwangju and the Jeonnam region including ten universities, three local branches of government, and seven public institutions held the ‘Supporting Network for National Universities Council’ to start the official operation of the network and discuss future plans and aims.

The Network Council will carry out comprehensive research on resources and facilities and programs for cooperative projects during the first half of 2019, aiming to start pilot programs for the second half of this year. By 2022, the council is going to establish a virtuous circle of local contribution, designate a specialization promotion base to carry out job placement projects for creating excellent workforces, and encourage the expansion of higher education services.

The representative of the Network Council said, "Although there are 21 universities in Gwangju and the Jeonnam region, and 16 public institutions have been relocated to the Naju Innovative City, still, the joint use of human and material resources is still insufficient. Moreover, we cannot expect to achieve synergies between separate projects of each institution, from which otherwise we can establish an alliance partnership and gain benefits from mutual cooperation."

The Network Council will establish a network between universities, universities and public bodies, universities and public institutions, and universities and local industries to share resources possessed by universities as a base for regional revitalization and to carry out cooperation projects through them.

Furthermore, it will take the lead in resolving local community problems as well as the renovation of the wider Honam region by utilizing flexible cooperation and university R&D capabilities.
