A CNU university research center has achieved 30 million USD in export contracts, and is opening the new era of universities to move beyond the R&D area to present a new model that directly drives the revitalization of regional industry.

According to CNU, the CNU Biomaterials Development Center (Director: Kang, Seong-Soo) announced that it accomplished an accumulated export record of 31.4 million USD (equivalent to approximately 37 billion KRW) since it was selected for the ‘Small-and Middle-sized Partners Support Project for Bio-absorbable Material Parts Development for Dentistry’ governed by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy last October.

The CNU Biomaterials Development Center ran a cooperative exhibition booth with 19 domestic partner companies at the 38th International Dental Show held in Köln (Cologne), Germany, last March and completed export contracts with 10 international companies, which is worth 240 million USD and expected to result in the hiring of 50 employees.

The center also completed contracts with 6 international enterprises, which is worth 8.2 million USD in the International Beauty Expo (IBE) 2019 Exhibition held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in May, resulting in the creation of 34 jobs.

In addition, it has signed export contracts totaling more than 2 billion USD in China and Dubai.

These accomplishments are attributed to the center’s successful record as it has been selected for the ‘Small-and Middle-sized Partners Support Project for Bio-absorbable Material Parts Development for Dentistry’ governed by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

The aim of the ‘Small-and Middle-sized Partners Support Project for Bio-absorbable Material Parts Development for Dentistry’ is to activate exports by creating innovative medical device industrial structures with a cooperative venture between industry, university, hospitals, and research agencies for the production and marketing of manufactured goods of small-and medium-sized companies. The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy will invest 14.1 billion KRW until 2022 to facilitate the exports of small-and medium-sized companies.

The CNU Biomaterials Development Center is supported by this project and covers the entire process from the development to the commercialization of biomedical and related products. It is expected to contribute to the revitalization of related industries and the boosting the local economy by sharing research accomplishments by providing consulting for advanced infrastructure projects to construct industry-academia collaborations.
