CNU students are promoting #save Myanmar campaign where they produce and sell items conveying messages in support of Myanmar.

The Students’ Association of the Department of English Language and Literature (Chairperson: Seo Young-woo) carried out the project to support the democratization of Myanmar. Students participated in fundraising events in front of the May 18 Square and College of Humanities Building III for two days on May 13 and 14.

Students designed products with messages to support Myanmar such as coasters, key chains, and rubber bracelets using a fund of 1 million KRW provided by the faculty of the Department of English Language and Literature (Department Head: Professor Kim Yeon-min). The profits gained from this campaign will be donated to an organization that supports the democratization movement in Myanmar.

In addition, the Students’ Association and the BK21 Education and Research Program for Fostering Cultural Memory Curators invited Yoon Ji-hyun, the Secretary-General of the Korean branch of Amnesty International, for detailed information on the local human rights situation in Myanmar and discussed ways for citizens' solidarity on May 7.

The Department of English Language and Literature along with its students’ association and the BK21 Education and Research Program, has offered relevant programs for Myanmar's democratization by inviting Myanmar students who are attending CNU and experts to give special lectures on April 16.

The Students’ Association and the BK21 Education and Research Program said, "We planned this project with the hope that the May 18 spirit of Gwangju will be passed on to the democratization movement in Myanmar."
