A CNU Emeritus Professor who is staying in the United States donated $200,000 (about 234 million KRW) to the University Development Fund.

According to CNU, CNU Emeritus Professor Lee Jeong-gil (80, College of Veterinary Medicine) deposited $200,000 into the account of the CNU Development Fund as a scholarship fund on December 16, 2021.

On behalf of CNU, President Jung sent a letter of gratitude, saying, “We appreciate Emeritus Professor Lee’s love and concern for CNU. It is hard to express our gratitude for not forgetting the university even though he has been thousands of miles away from school for a long time. Following the will of Emeritus Professor Lee, who has devoted his life to research and education, we will further our efforts for the development of the university and fostering future talents.”

Emeritus Professor Lee replied, “I am pleased that I have completed the task I have been thinking about for a long time. I am spending the last days of my life wishing for the prosperity of the university and I believe President Jung would understand this kind of emotion.”

It is known that Emeritus Professor Lee made this donation without making it public before CNU’s press release.

Emeritus Professor Lee also donated 2 million KRW to the academic research fund in 1993 and another 2 million KRW to the CNU Animal Hospital in June 2021.

Emeritus Professor Lee received his master's and doctoral degrees from James Cook University, Australia, after completing his bachelor's and master's degrees at CNU. He served as a professor at CNU for 36 years until 2007.

After retirement, he moved to the United States and made his debut as a writer, receiving an award from Mijumunhak in 2012. He has been active as a member of the Korean Literary Society of America and has he published Life Goes On (Dong-in Publishing, 2019), Hanging Out on Weekdays and Taking a Rest on Weekends (Changjo Publishing, 2017), among other works.
