CNU has been selected for the 2024 University ICT Research Center (ITRC) project supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT, and the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation.

As a result of this selection, the CNU Super-Regional Medical AI Research Center (director: Professor Yang Hyung-jeong) will receive a total of 7.5 billion KRW in funding over eight years and will focus on enhancing national competitiveness in promising ICT technologies and training ICT convergence innovation talent at the master's and doctoral levels.

In particular, CNU, along with Kyungpook National University, CNU Hospital, and Kyungpook National University Hospital—representing the Honam and Yeongnam regions—will train around 40 master’s and doctoral students annually. They will also work together to develop technologies for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and predict outcomes of complex diseases by developing medical AI technologies across regional boundaries.

The Super-Regional Medical AI Research Center will focus on expanding the application scope of related technologies and establishing a foundation for leading technologies through research on AI collaborative learning across disciplines, regions, industry-academia cooperation, and hospitals while addressing personal data protection issues required in medical data.

Through this, the center is expected to provide high-quality medical services required by an aging society, bridge gaps between regions, disciplines, and hospitals, and contribute to training key experts in medical AI convergence.
