A research paper by a research team led by Professor Lee Dong-weon (Department of Mechanical Engineering) at CNU was selected as the cover article in the August 15 issue of the international journal Small, one of the top journals in the field of nanotechnology.
This journal ranks in the top 10% of JCR (Journal Citation Reports) and has an impact factor (IF) of 13, making it one of the leading journals in its field.
Professor Lee's research team introduced an innovative technology that uses micro-sensor technology to non-invasively measure the contractile force and electrical signals of heart cells in real-time.
This technology can detect minute contractile forces of heart cells in the micro-Newton range and precisely monitor the electrical activity of heart cells through micro-electrodes.
By utilizing this technology, the safety of various drugs can be accurately assessed during cardiac toxicity evaluations. It is expected to play a critical role in developing safer pharmaceuticals, which was difficult to detect with existing technologies.
This research was supported by the Leading Research Center project and Mid-career Research Support Program of the National Research Foundation of Korea. The research team plans to contribute to global medical technology innovation based on their findings.
