Chonnam National University (CNU) welcomed the New Year with a visit to the National May 18th Democracy Cemetery and a tribute to the victims of the Jeju Air crash.

On January 2, President Sungtaek Jung, along with university leaders, alumni, and student representatives, honored the democratic martyrs at the National May 18th Democracy Cemetery. They then visited the Joint Memorial Altar at May 18 Democracy Square in Gwangju to pay respects to the Jeju Air crash victims.

The university also held its 2025 New Year’s Ceremony in Yongbong Hall, attended by faculty, alumni, and student representatives. During the event, the university pledged to embrace the spirit of “Yujikyungseong” (有志竟成)—the belief that persistence and determination in pursuing meaningful goals will lead to success.

In his New Year’s address, President Jung expressed confidence in the university’s ability to overcome challenges through unity and collaboration. He emphasized the resilience Chonnam National University has shown over the past 73 years and its commitment to becoming even stronger in the future.
