CNU's Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (Director: Professor Seo Guk-hyun) has introduced specialized medical teams and advanced diagnostic equipment such as MRI, to provide expert medical services for pets while simplifying the reception process for pet owners.

Recently, the hospital has invited professors specializing in clinical fields to diversify its specialties. Notably, it has established departments of emergency critical care and ophthalmology to meet the needs of regional hospitals. It has expanded its specialties by establishing a stem cell center for regenerative medicine. The hospital will provide specialized treatments for dental diseases, skin conditions, tumors, neurological disorders, cardiovascular diseases, endocrine diseases, urogenital diseases, geriatric diseases, endoscopic exams, and orthopedic surgeries using 3D printing.

The newly established Emergency and Critical Care Department (director: Professor Ro Woong-bin, specializing in heart disease) will offer tailored services for emergency and critically ill animals with a 24-hour intensive care facility. The hospital focuses on dialysis and interventional procedures, such as congenital heart disease corrections, heartworm removal, tracheal collapse treatments, and urethral stent placements.

To meet the growing demand for ophthalmic care for companion animals, CNU has invited Professor Jeong Man-bok, a board-certified Asian veterinary ophthalmologist, to establish an ophthalmology department, the first of its kind in Gwangju and the Jeolla provinces. This initiative aims to treat eye diseases in pets systematically and will also assist in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases in riding horses, contributing to the growth of equestrian culture in Korea.

In addition, CNU’s Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital has established a system for treating chronic and refractory diseases through stem cell research, led by Professor Son Young-bum who has cultivated and screened them meticulously. Diseases treated with stem cells include arthritis, feline stomatitis, atopic dermatitis, allergic diseases, and kidney failure. The hospital will expand this treating method to other conditions.

Furthermore, the hospital has also expanded dental treatment rooms, introduced precise skin allergy tests for atopic dermatitis, and implemented 3D printing for maxillofacial surgeries. Pet owners can now access these specialized services without requiring a referral from regional hospitals. Additionally, the hospital is expanding health checkup services to provide high-quality, professional care to local communities, contributing to the advancement of regional animal care.
