A CNU research team won first prize in an international competition for artificial intelligence research for the recognition of human emotions.

According to CNU, a joint research team consisting of Huynh Van Thong, a doctoral candidate, and professors Kim Soo-hyung, Yang Hyeong-jeong, and Lee Gwi-sang (starting from the left of the photo) from its Department of Artificial Intelligence Convergence, won the first prize in the EmoPain Challenge 2020, an international contest on emotion recognition held online from November 16th to 20th.

The CNU research team ranked first in the first task for prediction of the intensity of pain from facial expressions, based on the Multi-stream Attention Deep Learning Model devised by Huynh Van Thong.

The competition, organized by the FG 2020 International Conference, is a contest on human behavior analysis, especially behavior related to pain. It has three divisions of technology, including predicting the intensity of pain from facial expressions, pain recognition by motion analysis, and pain-related behavior classification.

Also, the FG (Face and Gesture) International Conference is a world-class international conference on face recognition and gesture analysis, which is held annually by the IEEE. The CNU research team announced its research accomplishment in the conference held online for 20 days from November 16th, 2020.
