CNU was selected as a software-oriented university.

On April 23, CNU was newly selected for the second stage of the Software-Oriented University Project promoted by the Ministry of Science, ICT, and Planning and the Institute of Information and Communications Technology Planning and Evaluation (IITP). The project provides a maximum of 14.9 billion KRW to the selected universities to foster creative software convergence talents who will lead in the era of the 4th industrial revolution.

Starting this year, this project is divided into 7 general tracks and 2 specialized tracks. CNU was selected for a general track and will produce excellent software (SW), artificial intelligence (AI) specialists, and AI convergence talents.

To this end, CNU decided to establish an SW Education Center and promote SW education innovation across the university.

First of all, to cultivate SW/AI experts, the curriculum of the Department of Artificial Intelligence at the College of AI Convergence, the Department of Software Engineering at the College of Engineering, and the Department of Computer Information and Communication Engineering will be revamped, focusing on artificial intelligence, cloud technology, and the Internet of Things (IoT). In addition, 8 convergence departments, convergence majors, and convergence tracks will open to foster AI convergence talents in connection with regional strategic industries such as automobiles, energy, healthcare, and cultural contents.

In addition, to secure future social competitiveness through basic, compulsory software education for all students and software competency enhancement education, online software courses will be operated for all students who are expected to enter the school prior to enrollment in order to induce interest in software and to cultivate computing thinking. In addition, the educational program plans to hold training camps to spread the idea of mutual development in local communities with software competence and promote local open education courses.

President Jung said, “As a regional university in the Honam area, CNU will faithfully fulfill its role as a cradle for nurturing software professionals and artificial intelligence convergence talents required by the Fourth Industrial Revolution. In particular, through discovering and fostering software talent in Gwangju, we will actively support the successful promotion of the metropolitan city's artificial intelligence-centered industrial convergence complex and revitalization of the software and artificial intelligence-centered industrial ecosystem.”
