CNU was selected for the Campus Innovation Park Project that intricately creates combined spaces for the cooperation of industry, university, and researchers in concert with residential areas and cultural facilities for welfare on campus.

According to CNU, it has been selected as one of the two successful candidates, along with Kyungpook National University for the project, the results of which were announced on April 1st. Jointly promoted by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the project was subjected to heated competition and interest, receiving proposals from 23 universities nationwide.

The Campus Innovation Park Project selects universities with innovative capabilities and strategic locations to accommodate future industries as well as excellent programs to foster talent for those industries. The project is based on the cooperation of three major governmental ministries to advance university-industry cooperation and establish a new ecosystem of innovation on university campuses.

Selected by the project, CNU is going to establish an industrial complex in the annex to the CNU Sports Ground by the first half of next year. The facility will be completed with a residential area, cultural and welfare facilities as well as an industry-academic cooperation space by 2024.

CNU will maximize the synergy effect of this cooperative effort by linking this project with projects it has conducted, such as the Urban Regeneration Project, the Regional Innovation Platform Project, and the Investment Fund Raising for Start-ups Project. In addition, following the first step of the project, know as the Industry-Academic Innovation Hub, the follow-up projects such as the second step Amenity Innovation Hub and the third step, Global Innovation Hub will gradually be expanded into the Compact City-Type High-Tech Industrial Complex through 9 years of step-by-step projects.

Proactive support from Gwangju Metropolitan City and the Buk-gu District Office contributed to the selection of this project as well as the business agreement which was signed between CNU and the Gwangju Metropolitan City Corporations for the promotion of the second-stage development plan, which is expected to proceed smoothly in the future.

CNU President Jung Sung-taek said, “The Campus Innovation Park Project will serve as an opportunity to significantly expand the industry-academic cooperation and startup support ecosystem in our region as a forward base to lay the foundation for innovative start-ups, foster start-ups using innovative technologies, and create high-quality jobs."
