A short film produced by CNU students is gaining interest as it has been officially invited for showing at a regular film festival.

Our Sea, produced by CNU students, Jo Byu-ri, Jang Hae-young, and Park Hyun-young (juniors in the Department of Communication, Advisor Professor: Bae Ji-yang) over a period of about six months, will be released at CGV Piccadilly 1958 in Jongno-gu, Seoul for 4 days from November 11-14. It was officially invited to the non-competitive part of the Gachibom Film Festival (Persons with Disabilities Film Festival) held face-to-face.

Our Sea is a film about the friendship between two people with disabilities, Su-young and Ji-min and a non-disabled friend named Min-young. It is recognized for describing the prejudice against those with disabilities and the inner conflict that arises from the characters’ relationship in detail.

Moreover, this film is more meaningful as it was supported by Blue Dream Supporters, an alumni group of the Department of Communication, which paid the production cost in the form of a scholarship, while the university supported the production with the latest video equipment.

The Gachibom Film Festival is a regular film festival that is being held this year for the 22nd time with the theme of communication between the disabled and non-disabled people through films, hosted by the Korea Association of the Deaf and sponsored by the Film Promotion Committee. In this year's screening contest, despite the poor production environment due to COVID-19, a total of 57 films were submitted.

Professor Yoo Jong-won, the head of the Department of Communication, said, “As students’ activities are expanding, they are showing plenty of possibilities, such as winning the grand prize at the National University Student Film Festival and Gwangju Metropolitan City Film Festival last year. It is a great help in nurturing CNU members who acknowledge the value of pride and liberty.”
