CNU students won the grand prize and excellence award at the Indi Stars Contest, where students compete using their creativity in game production skills.
The Little Bug team consisting of CNU students (undergraduate students in software engineering majors: Lee Jeong-seok [junior], Lee Han-na, Jun Dong-jun, and Ma Hye-jin [sophomores]) won the prize for creative technology for game production by applying cutting-edge software and design technology.
This competition is hosted by the Gwangju Information Culture Industry Promotion Agency every year to cultivate excellent game production experts.
Principum, the grand prize recipient, is a mystery adventure game where users participate in the quest to find mysterious relics stored in ruins in a deep forest, which suddenly disappears in an accident. The protagonist and friends in the game go on a difficult adventure to recover them and use the power of the relics acquired through the adventure to overcome difficulties.
Break Time, another CNU student team (Kim Young-woo, Jang Hong-joon, [juniors in the Department of Software Engineering], Kim Min-ki, and Lee Young-min [juniors in the School of Electronics and Computer Engineering) won the Excellent Award in the same contest.
UponTale, which the Break Time team developed, is a puzzle platformer game based on a fairy tale, where px-layers become librarians of a magic library, pick up paints and brushes, go into a book stained with ink, travel around a fairy tale world, and lead the protagonist to a happy ending.
Both of these teams are made up of students from PIMM, an academic club in the School of Electronics and Computer Engineering at CNU. PIMM (Adviser Professor: Lee Chil-woo) gathers students interested in software development, design, and game production to gain experience in producing various video contents and for startups and job hunting.
Meanwhile, the CNU student team, which won the grand prize in the 2016 contest, founded Southpaw Games and launched Skull: The Hero Sx-layer, which is growing smoothly as the most popular game among domestic indie games.
