CNU recorded a competition rate of 2.70:1 (4,398 applications for 1,146 openings) in the 2021 Regular Admission for which it received an application for type I and II until January 11.

The competition rate for the entire Gwangju Campus is 3.16:1 (3,627 applications for 1,146 openings, and the competition rate for the entirety of the Yeosu Campus is 1.60: 1 (771 applications for 483 openings).

By departments, general admission of the School of Dentistry (integrated bachelor's and master's degree program) at the Gwangju Campus received 54 applications for 3 openings, recording the highest competition rate of 18.0:1. The Department of Veterinary pre-medicine recorded 9.67:1 (174 applications for 18 openings) and the Department of Electrical Engineering recorded 6.18:1 (68 applications for 11 openings) while the Department of Music (trumpet major) recorded 6.00:1 (6 applications for 1 opening).

At the Yeosu Campus, general admission of the Department of Fisheries and Biomedical Science recorded 4.40:1 (21 applications for 5 openings), the Department of Japanese Studies in the Division of International Studies recorded 3.9:1 (39 applications for 10 openings), and the Department of Architectural Design recorded 3.67:1 (44 applications for 12 openings). However, the competition rate was considerably low in departments with early employment contracts, which implemented special admission, recording 0.52:1 (26 applications for 50 openings), and for specialized high school graduates (night course) 0.46 to 1 (6 applications for 13 openings).

The SAT-based local talent admissions of the Department of Medicine and the Graduate School of Dentistry (integrated bachelor's and master's degree program) showed competition rates of 2.88:1 (49 applications for 17 openings) and 4.88:1 (39 applications for 8 openings), respectively.

CNU analyzed the results and found that the decline in its competition rate from 3.11:1 last year was attributed to a decrease in the number of SAT candidates due to a decrease in the school-age population and the 40% increase of accumulated vacancies from the previous year’s early-decision admissions.

CNU will hold a practical test of arts and sports majors and an admission interview for departments with early employment contracts on January 27th, and the successful candidates for both of types I and II types will be announced on February 3rd.

In addition, important notices for things such as application for the CNU dormitories, academic schedule, medical examination schedules, etc., will be announced on the CNU website on the date of announcement of successful applicants.

Tuition payments for first-round successful applicants is from 9:00 a.m. on February 8th to 4:30 p.m. on February 10th, and depending on the result of registration for first-round successful applicants, applicants who are eligible for extra admission will be announced at 10:00 p.m. on February 10th, which is just before the beginning of the Lunar New Year holiday. After that, the 2nd-5th rounds of additional admissions will be announced in the morning of February 15th-18th.
