The newly constructed road and waterway connecting the CNU Main Gate and May 18 Square are named “Minju-daero” and “May 18 Waterway,” respectively.

According to CNU, through public advertisement and screening processes, it confirmed the name of the road and waterway, which were constructed as a part of the Democratic Trail on campus. The Democratic Trail was created to make a public cultural space for local residents to take a walk and commemorate the Gwangju spirit of democracy, human rights, and justice.

As a result of the competition, in addition to the winning title, “Minju-daero,” other names were awarded as excellent controbutions, such as Road of Truth, Yongbong Road, Hope Road, and Neuti Road. In addition to the winning work ‘May 18 Waterway,’ Yongbongsu-ro, Bongji-cheon, Democratic Ji-cheon, and Democratic Stream were also selected as excellent names.

Minju-daero was built approximately 7 meters wide next to the existing Metasequoia Road and forms the central axis of the Democratic Trail that connects the May 18 Square and the Main Gate of CNU. May 18 Waterway runs from the fountain at the center of the May 18 Square to the CNU Main Gate.
