CNU will establish another graduate school for cutting-edge technology as it prepares for its Data Science Graduate School to nurture experts in the future.

Data science refers to a convergence field that mobilizes scientific methodologies, processes, algorithms, and systems necessary to extract knowledge and information from various data. Data collection, monitoring, and learning are important to efficiently run a data-driven business, as specialized knowledge in various fields that can be dealt with are required.

CNU signed an Agreement for Data Science Development through an online videoconference with Seoul National University and Kyungpook National University on July 21 and promised to cooperate in ▲ sharing know-how necessary for establishing a graduate school, developing a curriculum, and constructing an educational research environment ▲ collaborating for the development of data science research and exchange platforms ▲ demanding government support for the reform of the academic system for the development of the data science field and to better supply faculty members.

In addition, they agreed to expand the education and research model of the Data Science Graduate School to national flagship universities across the country to respond to the demand for advanced manpower in the field of AI and big-data and to fulfill the role as a national hub for data science education.

CNU is in the process of establishing a Data Science Graduate School together with Kyungpook National University, and Seoul National University opened a similar graduate school in March of last year.

In the data science industry, the forecast value of the overseas market in 2027 is expected to reach 320 trillion KRW, and the domestic market is expected to grow at an average annual rate of about 10%.

President Jung said, “As the data science industry is expected to grow rapidly, CNU and Kyungpook National University, following Seoul National University, have decided to establish data science graduate schools and help each other for mutual development. We want to build an academic foundation so that in-depth research and education can be conducted while nurturing experts for this purpose.”
