CNU will lead the training of experts in the energy field centered on artificial intelligence (AI).

According to CNU, it was selected for the AI + Energy field of the AI Convergence University Support Project hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and Gwangju Metropolitan City and will receive approximately four billion KRW in support for four years until 2024.

The AI Convergence University Support Project subsidizes training programs of practical manpower needed in local industries such as automobiles, energy, healthcare, and AI source technology. The AI + Energy field aims to nurture high-level manpower necessary for energy development, production, use, and treatment by educational programs on the convergence of energy and power engineering and AI technology.

To this end, CNU plans to lead the national strategic industry and nurture global creative talents through AI-based, next-generation energy convergence education centering on the Energy + AI Core Talent Nurturing Research Group (Director: Professor Kang Hyun-wook, School of Mechanical Engineering). Thirty-nine faculty members from seven departments, including the School of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Artificial Intelligence, and about 200 students a year will participate in the program.

The curriculum will be divided into two parts: energy processes and virtual physics systems focusing on the ▲ development and operation of an energy + AI core curriculum, ▲ operation of a convergence industry-university project, and ▲ establishment of a global future energy technology network.

Previously, CNU newly established four AI Convergence majors including the IoT AI Convergence Department in 2018, launched the College of AI Convergence in 2019, and selected 100 freshmen for the Department of AI Convergence this year.
