Chonnam National University's Smoking Cessation Policy and Efforts (2023)
Since 2015, Chonnam National University has been continuously implementing a comprehensive smoking cessation program, updating its plans annually to meet current needs. The aim of this program is to foster a smoke-free atmosphere on campus, expand designated smoke-free areas, and create a cleaner, more pleasant environment for the university community. This initiative has positively impacted not only the university's students and staff but also the wider local community.

Objectives of the Program
- Promoting Smoking Cessation and Prevention: The university operates a team-based coaching system where smoking cessation supporters and faculty members work together to provide 1:1 guidance, raise awareness of the harms of smoking, and run a variety of prevention activities.
- Raising Awareness of the Need for Smoking Cessation: The program promotes the necessity of smoking cessation through the operation of smoking cessation clinics and educational activities on the dangers of smoking, aiming to spread successful cessation cases.
- Regional Collaborative Campaigns: Chonnam National University collaborates with local health organizations to run integrated campaigns, smoking cessation clinics, helplines, and educational programs, thus encouraging smoking prevention and supporting cessation efforts.
Goals of the Program
- A student-led Smoking Cessation Supporters Group (including international students) actively promotes a smoke-free campus environment and contributes to creating a healthier campus.
