2022-2025 Chonnam National University Development Plan

Chonnam National University was founded in 1952 amid the chaos of war, through the will and donations of local residents. Over the past 70 years, the university's members have developed scholarship and built the educational environment. Given that Chonnam National University was founded with the support of the local community, contributing to the development of both the region and national education has been a significant mission since its establishment. Despite difficult circumstances, the university has remained committed to advancing scholarship and enhancing the quality of education, enabling it to rapidly elevate itself to the level of established prestigious universities, while nurturing talented individuals capable of contributing to society and the nation.

Chonnam National University upholds three core values: truth (the ultimate goal of scholarship), creation (the pursuit of new knowledge and possibilities), and service (contributing to the local community and nation). We have firmly upheld universal human values such as life, democracy, human rights, and peace, actively participating in the complex situations of modern history, without succumbing to adversity or oppression.

We have led the balanced development of the nation and revitalization of the region through advanced knowledge and superior science and technology, and we have enriched the lives of local communities through our abundant cultural and artistic capabilities.

Chonnam National University has established long-term development directions through reports such as the 'CNU 2030 Future Report' in 2012 and the 'CNU Long-term Development Plan Report' in 2016. In 2020, through the 'Chonnam National University Development Plan Report,' the university presented a four-year development roadmap. We have been revising and updating our development plans annually to respond flexibly to the paradigm shifts brought by the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the demands for innovation in higher education at the regional and national levels.

Now, we must prepare for the next 100 years of creation, based on the 70 years of history and tradition led by truth. To this end, we have gathered the intentions and will of all university members to establish the 'Chonnam National University Development Plan.'

The founding philosophy of Chonnam National University is to pursue the university's intrinsic mission of searching for truth, succeeding and creating traditional culture, and leading service for the development of the local community and nation. Through this, we have firmly established our identity as a regional hub national university.

Truth is the essence of the world and the universe, the ultimate aim of all scholarship. Our university strives for an academic community with global competitiveness through the integration of basic and applied sciences and the fusion of diverse academic disciplines.

Creation is the essence of nature and freedom, the ideal that all beings aspire to. Our university aims for various academic activities that allow all faculty and students to encounter and engage with new and unfamiliar worlds, fostering creative talents who will lead the 21st century.

Service is the condition for the existence of all communities and the foundation of a public life that all responsible individuals should aspire to. Our university strives to cultivate talents who fulfill their responsibilities to local and national communities, as well as the global community.

Thus, Chonnam National University’s educational goal is to be a university that excels in adaptability and innovation, leads the times, coexists with the community, and nurtures glocal talents who contribute to building a sustainable world with the region.
