The following policies were all created or reviewed between 2019 and 2024.
Chonnam National University is dedicated to preventing disadvantages caused by pregnancy, childbirth, or infant adoption and fostering a supportive organizational culture that promotes the balance of work and family life.

In accordance with national public service regulations, employees who are pregnant or have given birth are entitled to 90 days of leave.

Pregnant employees are allowed up to two hours of maternity protection time per day.

Employees with children under five years old can take up to two hours of childcare time per day to care for their children.

The university has established a leave system for students who need time off for pregnancy, childbirth, or childcare.

Female faculty members receive an extension of their appointment period, up to two years for one childbirth and up to one year for adopting an infant or preschool-aged child (under six years old) during their employment period.

Female faculty members are exempted from teaching responsibilities for the semester when they are unable to teach due to maternity leave.

Faculty members on maternity or parental leave during a semester are exempted from teaching courses in English for that semester.

Faculty members who take maternity or parental leave for a semester or more receive basic points for educational performance evaluation (115 points per semester).

Faculty members on maternity or parental leave are not subject to restrictions on applying for a sabbatical year.

The university operates a childcare facility (daycare center) to support the care of infants and toddlers for university staff and local community members, providing an environment where both parents, including women, can focus on their work.

Every Wednesday is designated as ‘Family Love Day,’ encouraging employees to leave work on time, avoiding after-hours gatherings, and promoting family togetherness among faculty and staff.

The university promotes an atmosphere where both women and men are encouraged to use childcare time, parental leave, and other family-related benefits to balance work and family life.

A nursing room and resting area for prenatal and postnatal mothers are available at the university’s health clinic.
- Employees who give birth receive a celebration payment.
