4.3.5 - lifelong learning access policy
Chonnam National University, grounded in the values of truth as the ultimate goal of all scholarship, creation as the essence of nature and freedom, and service as the condition for the existence of all communities, is committed to providing high-quality education to everyone regardless of nationality, religion, disability, immigration status, or gender. The university is dedicated to leading sustainable development in the local community through future-oriented educational cooperation.
[Development Plan of Chonnam National University]
Chonnam National University was founded in 1952 amidst the smoke of war, opened through the will and donations of local residents. Over the past 70 years, the members of Chonnam National University have cultivated scholarship and constructed the educational environment with unyielding determination and a sacred sense of mission, even in the face of scarce finances and poor conditions, rapidly elevating the university to the level of the established institutions.
Holding dear the founding philosophy of truth, creation, and service, we have illuminated truth through scholarship, created novelty through challenges, and dedicated ourselves to the development of the region and the nation. We have steadfastly defended universal human values such as life, democracy, human rights, and peace without succumbing to hardships and oppression, actively engaging in the complexities of modern history.
With advanced knowledge and superior science and technology, we have led the balanced development of the nation and revitalization of the region, and with our abundant cultural and artistic capabilities, we have enriched the lives of the local community.
Chonnam National University has established long-term university development directions through reports such as the 'CNU 2030 Future Report' in 2012 and the 'CNU Long-term Development Plan Report' in 2016. In 2020, through the 'Chonnam National University Development Plan Report,' a four-year cycle university development roadmap was presented, and we have been revising and updating our development plans annually to flexibly respond to the paradigm shifts of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the demands for innovation in higher education at regional and national levels.
Now, based on the 70 years of history and tradition led by truth, we must prepare for the next 100 years led by creation. For this purpose, we have gathered the intentions and will of all university members to establish the 'Chonnam National University Development Plan.'
The founding philosophy of Chonnam National University is to pursue the intrinsic mission of a university—searching for truth, succeeding and creating traditional culture, and leading service for the development of local communities and the nation—thus establishing our identity as a regional hub national university.
Truth is the essence of the world and the universe, the ultimate aim of all scholarship. Our university strives for an academic community with global competitiveness through the integration of basic and applied sciences and a fusion of diverse academic disciplines.
Creation is the essence of nature and freedom, the ideal all beings aspire to. Our university aims for various academic activities where all faculty and students encounter and communicate with the strange and new world, fostering creative talents who will lead the 21st century.
Service is the condition for the possibility of all communities to exist and the foundation of a public life that all responsible people should aspire to. Our university strives for the cultivation of talents who fulfill their responsibilities to local and national communities, as well as the global community.
Based on these values, Chonnam National University is committed to providing quality education to everyone, regardless of nationality, religion, disability, immigration status, or gender, and is doing its utmost as a national hub university to lead sustainable development of the local community through future-oriented educational cooperation.
