Chonnam National University's Expert Advice to National and International Energy Policies
Professor Bae ○○ from Chonnam National University's Department of Economics was recently appointed as an operating committee member for the bioenergy sector of the International Energy Agency (IEA). The IEA, a transnational organization formed by major oil-consuming countries, aims to facilitate emergency oil distribution among member countries and promote alternative energy development in response to reductions in oil supply from oil-producing nations.
As an operating committee member in the bioenergy field, Professor Bae will represent South Korea in the IEA’s Research Technology Committee, participating in biannual meetings. His responsibilities include managing 11 existing projects, evaluating new projects, and overseeing the creation and review of the IEA's annual bioenergy report. South Korea has been involved with the IEA's Renewable Energy Working Party (REWP) under the Committee on Energy Research and Technology (CERT) since 2002, actively engaging in technology cooperation programs in areas such as solar, wind, hydrogen, bioenergy, and solar thermal energy.
Through this role, Professor Bae significantly contributes to both national and international energy policy development, expanding Chonnam National University's influence and involvement in global energy initiatives.

Advisory Services in Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy for the Jeonnam Region
Professor Gwak ○○ from the Department of Marine Convergence Science has been appointed as a member of the Jeonnam Science and Technology Promotion Council under the National Science and Technology Advisory Council of the Ministry of Science and ICT. In this role, Professor Gwak participates in reviewing and coordinating major policies and plans, including the Comprehensive Science and Technology Promotion Plan for Jeollanam-do. His contributions are especially valuable in the efficient management and feedback improvement of national R&D budgets related to science and technology in Jeollanam-do, as well as in identifying future industries through the digitalization and decarbonization of local key industries. Professor Gwak is expected to serve Jeollanam-do in this capacity for a three-year term.
In addition, Professor Gwak is actively involved in various advisory roles closely linked to the local community, including as a member of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ Central Coastal Management Advisory Committee and as President of the Korean Society of Environmental Genetics. His work contributes to strengthening the foundation of sustainable development in the Jeonnam region through science and technology.
