1. Student Environmental Assistants - Eco-Friends
Chonnam National University, the 'Eco-Friends' program is operated to enhance environmental awareness and encourage eco-friendly activities within the campus. A significant feature of this program is that students go beyond merely participating; they actively lead in planning and executing the program. Students autonomously design and implement a variety of activities aimed at protecting the environment.

Key activities include campaigns for waste separation within the campus, searching for practical solutions to reduce waste, direct involvement in the university's environmental policies, establishing energy-saving and recycling strategies for the 'Eco-Campus' initiative, and creating promotional materials for campus events. These activities deepen students' understanding of and interest in environmental issues and increase engagement with the university's 'Eco-Campus' project.

Such proactive participation provides students with opportunities to directly contribute to the school's policies and projects, enabling them to engage in autonomous environmental protection activities. Additionally, through this program, students can exercise leadership, experience teamwork, and actively contribute to making tangible changes. The 'Eco-Friends' program serves as a platform for students to become key players in solving environmental issues, exerting a positive influence not only on the campus but also on the broader community.

 

2. The Mirae-ro Club 

The "Mirae-ro" club at Chonnam National University is associated with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 12. This club focuses on promoting sustainable lifestyles and environmental protection through various activities. The main activities include:

   1. [Zero Waste] Practice: Encouraging the reduction of plastic use in daily life, and promoting reuse and recycling to minimize waste output. The goal is to foster efficient use of resources and improve waste management to reduce environmental pollution.

   2. Local Agricultural Purchases: Supporting the local economy and ensuring the freshness of food by directly purchasing from small-scale local farms. This practice reduces carbon emissions through short-distance transportation and strengthens the connection with the local community.

   3. [Environmental Protection] Education: Raising awareness among students and community members about the importance of environmental protection and encouraging the adoption of sustainable lifestyles. This increases awareness of environmental issues and leads to concrete actions for sustainable development.

In addition, the "Mirae-ro" club collaborates with the local community on various projects to protect the environment and contributes to improving energy efficiency and sustainable resource management. These activities not only protect the global environment but also contribute to the sustainable development of the local community, providing Chonnam National University members with practical knowledge and experience for a better future.
 

3. The 'Sustainable' Club

 

The "Sustainable" club at Chonnam National University, encompassing civic capacity building programs, is aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) No. 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and No. 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). This club contributes to sustainability through the following activities:

   1. Growing Air Purifying Plants: Cultivating air purifying plants both on and off-campus to improve environmental conditions and enhance air quality. This activity focuses on increasing urban green spaces and contributing to ecosystem restoration, aiming to create a sustainable environment.

    2. Digital Alienation Survey: Highlighting the reality that the advancements in digital technology do not benefit everyone equally, especially focusing on the digital alienation experienced by socially and economically vulnerable groups. This raises awareness of digital exclusion issues and promotes inclusive access to technology.

    3. Suggestions for Addressing Digital Alienation: Based on the findings of the digital alienation survey, the club seeks and proposes concrete solutions. These could include developing digital technology education programs, providing low-cost internet services, and improving free Wi-Fi accessibility in public places.

The "Sustainable" club endeavors to reduce inequalities within the community and ensure that all citizens can equitably enjoy the benefits of sustainable cities and communities. Through activities focused on environmental protection and enhancing digital inclusiveness, the club contributes to positive changes not only among the members of Chonnam National University but also throughout the broader community.


4. The '삼식이' Club

The '삼식이' club at Chonnam National University incorporates a civic capacity-building program and is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 6, which focuses on clean water and sanitation. This club undertakes various activities aimed at raising awareness of water scarcity within the local community and the university, and seeking sustainable water management solutions. The main activities include:

    1. Survey on University Perception of Local Water Shortage: Assessing the level of awareness regarding local water scarcity among university members to increase the academic community's interest in water shortage issues.

    2. Interviews with Meteorologists and Climatologists, Questioning Waterworks Headquarters: Gathering expert opinions on water management and collecting information on the status of water supply management to deepen the understanding of local water scarcity issues.

    3. Production and Promotion of Water Shortage Relief Posters: Creating and disseminating posters to raise public awareness about water scarcity and promote sustainable water use both within and outside the university.

Furthermore, the '삼식이' club collaborates with the local community to conduct water-saving campaigns and shares ideas for developing water reuse and recycling systems. Through these activities, the '삼식이' club strives for sustainable water management and improved access to clean water, pursuing tangible changes to address water scarcity issues both in the local community and within the university.


5. The 'Gaonnuri' Club



The "Gaonnuri" club at Chonnam National University is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 15, which focuses on the protection of terrestrial ecosystems. The club engages in activities designed to recognize and protect the importance of land ecosystems, including the following:

   1. Mt. Mudeungsan Clean-up Activity: Collecting trash and protecting nature in Mt. Mudeungsan to raise awareness of the importance of forest conservation and contribute to nature protection in collaboration with the local community.

   2. Land Ecosystem Awareness Survey and World Wildlife Day Promotion: Conducting surveys to enhance awareness of land ecosystems and wildlife conservation, and promoting the importance of wildlife protection in commemoration of World Wildlife Day.

   3. Card News Production Based on Land Ecosystem Awareness Survey Results: Creating card news based on the survey results to spread the importance of protecting land ecosystems online. This initiative broadly promotes the importance of protecting land ecosystems and encourages public participation in sustainable ecosystem conservation.

Through these activities, the "Gaonnuri" club raises awareness of land ecosystem conservation within the local community and the university and encourages practical actions for ecosystem protection. 6. The 'Environmental Activists' Club


 

The "Environmental Activists" club at Chonnam National University, which includes civic capacity-building programs, is aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) No. 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), No. 14 (Life Below Water), and No. 15 (Life on Land). This club undertakes practical activities to promote a sustainable environment, including the following:

    1. Beach Cleanup Activities: Collecting trash on the beaches to reduce marine pollution and protect marine ecosystems. This activity raises awareness of the marine debris issue and contributes to creating cleaner beach environments.

    2. Operation of the Anabada Market: Running a market where recyclable items can be exchanged or sold to reduce resource waste and encourage responsible consumption. This market facilitates resource circulation and spreads a culture of sustainable consumption.

    3. Proper Recycling Practices: Educating on correct waste separation methods and exploring efficient reuse options for recyclables to improve waste management and reduce pollution of terrestrial ecosystems. This activity contributes to increasing the recycling rate and reducing environmental pollution caused by waste.

Through these activities, the "Environmental Activists" club raises awareness of environmental protection within the local community and the university and encourages practical environmental protection actions. 7. The 'W.H.Y' Club



The "W.H.Y" club at Chonnam National University includes civic capacity-building programs and is related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) No. 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), No. 13 (Climate Action), and No. 14 (Life Below Water). The club undertakes various activities to protect the environment and build a sustainable society.

    1. Beach Cleanup Activities: Collecting trash on the beaches to protect the marine ecosystem and reduce marine pollution. This activity plays a crucial role in maintaining cleanliness along the coastlines and preserving habitats for marine life.

    2. Operation of the Anabada Market: Running a market where unused items can be exchanged or sold to reduce resource wastage and promote recycling. This market contributes to strengthening resource circulation and spreading the culture of responsible consumption.

    3. Clearing Spam Emails: Reducing unnecessary spam emails to lower energy consumption in the digital environment and decrease carbon emissions from data centers. This activity contributes to sustainable environmental management in the digital realm and supports climate action efforts.

Through these activities, the "W.H.Y" club raises awareness of environmental protection within the local community and the university, spreading the value of sustainable consumption and production. Moreover, the club's practical efforts towards climate action and the protection of marine ecosystems contribute to achieving the sustainable development goals.


8. The '50-Dollar Travel' Team 



 ※ The "50-Dollar Travel" program allows students to participate in journeys exploring the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by only paying the cost of a passport issuance, which is 50,000 KRW. This unique program, operated by Chonnam National University, is designed to deepen students' understanding of sustainable development and support their growth into exceptional talents on both a global and local scale.

Chonnam National University operates a program called "50-Dollar Travel," aimed at nurturing students into globally and locally proficient talents, centered around the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This program encourages students to voluntarily plan and participate in experiential and exploratory learning activities based on the 17 SDGs.

From an environmental sustainability standpoint, the "50-Dollar Travel" program is a pioneering educational initiative that integrates the principles of sustainable development into its curriculum core.
