The greenhouse gas emissions (tCO2-eq) for Chonnam National University in 2012 are as follows:
Scope 1: 8,622.92
Scope 2: 28,390.106
Total Greenhouse Gas Emissions: 37,007
Chonnam National University's Net-zero Target

Chonnam National University is pursuing carbon neutrality or Net-zero as a goal for environmental sustainability in accordance with guidelines set forth by the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change). The IPCC recommends that globally, carbon dioxide emissions be reduced by at least 45% by 2030 compared to 2010 levels, and that carbon neutrality be achieved by 2050. To this end, Chonnam National University has set mid-to-long-term carbon neutrality targets and is implementing the following strategies:
Improving Energy Efficiency: To reduce energy consumption, the university is enhancing the energy efficiency of buildings and other infrastructures. This may include better insulation, the use of high-efficiency lighting, and appliances.
Transition to Renewable Energy: The university is working to replace a significant portion of the energy used on campus with renewable energy sources to reduce its carbon footprint. This could involve the introduction or expansion of renewable energy projects, such as solar power generation.
Promoting Sustainable Transportation: The university encourages the use of low-carbon transportation methods on campus to reduce carbon emissions. This could include promoting public transportation use, improving bicycle infrastructure, and installing electric vehicle charging stations.
Education and Awareness Raising: The university provides education on sustainability to students and staff to better understand and actively participate in addressing environmental issues they face.
Research and Innovation: The university is investing in research to develop sustainable technologies and solutions that contribute to achieving carbon neutrality.
Community Engagement: The university participates in activities to achieve carbon neutrality goals through partnerships with the local community and supports the community's efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
Through these strategies, Chonnam National University is taking concrete and substantial steps to achieve its Net-zero target by 2050 and aims to play a significant role in leading sustainable development both locally and globally.
