Health Service Project
1. Life Sharing Blood Donation Campaign
In celebration of its 70th anniversary, Chonnam National University organized a "Hand in Hand Life Sharing Blood Donation Campaign" in collaboration with the Korean Red Cross Gwangju-Jeonnam Blood Center. A mobile blood donation vehicle was stationed at the Yeosu Campus from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., where the event was conducted in strict adherence to epidemic prevention protocols, including body temperature checks, mandatory mask-wearing, and hand sanitization.
The Yeosu Campus brought warmth to the year's end by donating approximately 350 blood donation certificates, collected during the campaign, to three local hospitals in the Yeosu area.
On December 20th, representatives from the Yeosu Campus presented 351 blood donation certificates to Yeosu Chonnam Hospital (Director Jong-gil Jeong), Yeosu Central Hospital (Director Ki-joo Park), and Jeil Hospital (Director Byung-seok Kang), with each institution receiving 117 certificates.

2. Regional Youth Health Promotion Program
Chonnam National University offered futsal, basketball, and aerobic/strength training programs for the youths living in the Buk District of Gwangju Metropolitan City. These programs engaged 1,505 local youths in aerobic and strength training activities, providing them with an opportunity to enhance their physical activity levels, promote health, establish lasting exercise habits, and broaden the engagement in recreational sports in their daily lives.
3. Smiles for the Community: Chonnam National University's 39th Dental Awareness Event
In celebration of its 70th anniversary, the Graduate School of Dentistry at Chonnam National University organized the 39th Dental Awareness Event near the back gate of the university. This event saw third-year master's program students at the forefront, offering complimentary oral health check-ups to the local community. They also provided education on correct oral hygiene practices and tooth brushing techniques, alongside engaging the attendees with dental quizzes to enhance their understanding of dental health.

4. Medical Volunteer Work in Gaegado, Heuksan-myeon, Sinan County
Gaegado, located in Heuksan-myeon, Sinan County, faces a shortage of dental care personnel, with only public health physicians available at the local health center to provide basic medical services. Consequently, residents often receive only simple treatments on the island and must travel to Mokpo for the majority of their healthcare needs.
To address this gap, the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the Chonnam National University Graduate School of Dentistry visited Gaegado, an area with limited medical services, to offer dental care and oral hygiene education to its residents.
5. [Volunteer Group 'Yakseok' Summer Medication Volunteer Activity in Wando]
The volunteer group 'Yakseok' from the pharmacy college, led by President Jiyoung Yu, a fifth-year pharmaceutical science student, and advised by Young-jun Im, conducted summer medication volunteer activities in Donggori, Sinji-myeon, Wando-gun. This area is not subject to the medical-pharmacy division system, allowing pharmacists to prescribe medications in the absence of doctors.
In Donggori, where no hospitals are available and pharmacists are permitted to prescribe medications directly, 'Yakseok' enabled 19 senior pharmacists to provide prex-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-scriptions for approximately 170 residents. Meanwhile, around 50 student members assisted by dispensing medications based on these prex-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-scriptions. They also offered over-the-counter drugs and provided medication consultations, which included guidance on proper medication use and necessary precautions.

6. Sports Camp Held for Children from Community Centers
A sports camp was organized for underprivileged children, specifically elementary and middle school students attending community child centers in the Gwangju area. This camp aimed to offer these children the chance to engage in advanced and practical sports experiences that they might not typically have access to, with the goal of enhancing their self-esteem.
The activities included golf, volleyball, indoor skiing, and drone piloting, providing a diverse and enriching experience for the students.

7. K-MOOC: Open Access Online Courses for All
K-MOOC stands for Massive Open Online Course, which signifies an open-form online learning course. It has evolved from classroom-only lectures to online learning videos that were only available for auditing, and now it has become a complete interactive learning experience with Q&A, discussions, quizzes, and assignments submissions.
Youth, university students, adult learners, job seekers, incumbents, and professors can freely access high-quality education by visiting the website.

8. Uniting Community Through Reading Project
The Chonnam National University Library is shared not only with university members but also with leave of absence students, university hospital staff, and local residents.
In particular, as a regional hub national university, the '2022 Gwangju·Jeonnam Reading and Talking' project has been very popular among local residents.
This project started in 1998 at the Seattle Public Library Washington Center for the Book in the United States with the project named 'What if the whole Seattle reads the same book?'
The project aims to promote the local community's reading culture by selecting a single book to read and discuss together, motivating and stimulating reading among the citizens through various cultural programs.

9. Museum
The Chonnam National University Museum collects, preserves, and exhibits materials related to history, culture, arts, and the school's history, providing convenience for both university members and the general public to view. It carries out research, education, and external cooperation and community service in related fields.
New exhibitions by different artists are held every month, and they are free to view by both university members and local residents.

10. Bridging the Digital Divide: Smart Learning Device Rental Service
The Gwangju Jeonnam Area University Remote Education Support Center, managed by Chonnam National University, operates a smart learning device rental service to support remote class attendance for college students in the area. It rents out 50 laptops for one semester per student.
Any college student in the Gwangju Jeonnam area can apply, with priority given to basic livelihood recipients, people with disabilities, and learners from single-parent families.

11. Lifelong Education Institute
Chonnam National University established the Lifelong Education Institute to contribute to the improvement of life quality and national and social development by providing open education and lifelong learning opportunities to the residents of the local community.
The Lifelong Education Institute operates various educational courses and certificate acquisition programs every year.
Tuition fees are waived or reduced by 50% to 10%, depending on the target group.
12. Urban Agricultural Manager Certificate
The Agricultural Practice Education Center of Chonnam National University has operated the 'Urban Agriculture Specialist Training Course' for free.
This course covered an understanding of urban agriculture, crop cultivation technology, lecture techniques, garden creation, and hands-on practice.
Those who obtain a national technical qualification of skilled worker or higher in urban agriculture can earn the Urban Agriculture Manager certificate. Urban Agriculture Managers can be placed in urban agriculture-related education and training facilities operated by the nation and local governments or work as school garden lecturers and managers, or specialized lecturers in urban agriculture.

Service activities linked to majors refer to a system that enhances practical experience learning in connection with the major. Under the guidance of faculty, students plan and operate various programs in collaboration with local communities and welfare organizations. 18. Dream Growth Camp
The Global Education Center at Chonnam National University held a 'Youth Dream Growth Camp' targeting young people from educationally underprivileged groups.
The Youth Dream Growth Camp is a residential mentoring education program designed to enhance the global competencies of local youth, which included career and major experiences with student mentors. The program was filled with various activities such as 'Me, Myself, and I' with native speaker instructors, career special lectures by professional instructors, majors and special activities taught by the mentors themselves, and group tasks such as visiting campus institutions and carrying out missions.

19. Rural Media Education Camp
Chonnam National University hosted a media education camp to contribute to the local community and support the career exploration of youths.
The Department of Journalism and Broadcasting at Chonnam National University held a 'Rural Media Camp' at Jangpyeong Middle School in Jangheung County, where classes on drone filming, video special editing, and screenplay writing were conducted.
In this media camp, Chonnam National University students from the Department of Journalism and Broadcasting, who completed a media teaching course after preparing media equipment and undergoing pre-education for practical skills, teamed up with Jangpyeong Middle School students. They created video content in line with the 'Peaceful School Project' run by the school, addressing four themes: hate speech, gender sensitivity, school violence, and fake news.

20. Educational Project for Children from Vulnerable Communities in the Local Area
The "2023 CNU Round-Up Class" program was planned under the leadership of the Student Affairs at Chonnam National University to provide tailored educational support services for children from vulnerable communities within the local area. The aim of this program was to reduce educational disparities within the community and to provide children with better learning opportunities to enhance their academic achievements.
The program ran for a total of 8 months, from June 7, 2023, to January 20, 2023. During this period, 35 participating university students and 12 child welfare educators supported the children's learning through various educational activities. The university students utilized their academic knowledge and experience to provide tailored educational guidance to the children, focusing on motivating and enhancing the children’s learning abilities.

21. Local Youth Employment Assistance Project
The 2023 Gwangju Youth Week titled "Youth Stories Re:Feel," hosted by Chonnam National University, targeted local youths, alumni, and current students with the aim of providing career and employment information and promoting youth employment policies. The event featured face-to-face consultations and various events through booth operations.
On the first day, the theme was about informing participants about youth employment policies, with ambassadors and staff from the Job Plus Center conducting one-on-one consultations and quiz events. The second day focused on career and employment information, with similar events being held. A total of 633 participants took part over the two days.
Despite the rain, the event was actively promoted through various channels, including the University Job Plus Center and Instagram, attracting a large number of young people due to the pre-event publicity. This not only supported local youths in their career and job preparation but also significantly enhanced the recognition and perceived value between Chonnam National University and the local youth community.
22. Local Youth Employment Support Service
The 2023 Local Youth Employment Support Service, hosted at Chonnam National University's Employment Lecture Room, aimed to improve job-seeking skills among 34 local youths, part of a broader group of 308 participants. The program featured specialized training in experience analysis, cover letter writing, and interview preparation, led by experts like Kim Kyung-han and Moon Ji-won. This initiative, aligned with the university's goal to enhance employment support for local youths, included tailored group education sessions as part of the 2023 Gwangju Youth Week. It successfully promoted career and job preparation services to local youths, significantly boosting the program's visibility and impact in the region.
23. Career and Employment Counseling Project for Military Service Members
The University Job Plus Center at Chonnam National University supported military service members, both during and post-service, in preparing for school life and job readiness through the "Army Go Job Chat" program. This program aimed to provide personalized job information using vocational psychological tests and the Job Care system, targeting the creation of a systematic and efficient career roadmap. In 2023, it operated in two sessions, serving a total of 80 young service members with initial and customized consultations, followed by ongoing support to alleviate the burden of career and job preparation and to enhance job competitiveness. Plans include offering remote consultations through video conferencing programs like ZOOM to improve accessibility and convenience.
