healthy and affordable food choices for all on campus

1. Affordable meals offered at the cafeteria: One-dollar breakfast

Chonnam National University operates six campus cafeterias, providing breakfast for 1,000 KRW (approximately 0.73 USD) and lunch and dinner for under 5,000 KRW (approximately 3.67 USD), based on exchange rates as of April 11, 2024. The cafeteria menus are varied, offering buffet-style meals that include a wide range of dishes from Korean to Western cuisine. Notably, Chonnam National University was the first to introduce a breakfast program for all students at the price of 1,000 KRW and was awarded the Grand Prize for the Excellent 1000 Won Breakfast Project in 2022.

2. Exam period cafeteria dinner discount: Two-dollar dinner

During the exam period, along with the "One-dollar breakfast" initiative, a "Two-dollar dinner" program was implemented to enhance the health of students and allow them to focus on their studies by providing dinner at 2,000 KRW. This affordable meal option is particularly designed to alleviate the stress and time constraints students face during exams, ensuring they have access to nutritious meals without having to leave campus or spend time preparing food. The "Two-dollar dinner," which is approximately 1.46 USD based on the exchange rate as of April 11, 2024, reflects the university's commitment to supporting its students' wellbeing and academic success.

3. Cafes and convenience stores with easy access to food purchases

In addition to the campus cafeterias, there are convenience stores and cafes scattered throughout the campus, ensuring that students and staff have access to a variety of affordable and diverse food options outside of cafeteria operating hours. These amenities enrich campus life, contributing to the convenience and well-being of the university community. The efforts of Chonnam National University significantly reduce the financial burden of food expenses for students, providing them with an environment that supports greater focus on their studies.

4. Snack pantries throughout the campus

Chonnam National University has established snack pantries within the student council offices and various department offices across campus. These pantries are stocked with a variety of snacks, providing a convenient option for students to grab a quick bite between classes or during study sessions.

Furthermore, the university has thoughtfully placed an employee lounge on the first floor of the university headquarters. This lounge serves as a cozy retreat where staff can unwind and recharge. Equipped with comfortable seating, it offers coffee and refreshments, allowing employees to take a well-deserved break and stave off hunger during their busy day. This initiative reflects the university's commitment to fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for both its students and staff.

5. Selling free-range Hanwoo beef without antibiotics at an affordable price

The Agricultural Practice Education Center is an institution that manages facilities for professor research and student training. It also oversees the production and distribution of plant, animal, and forest resources, along with other tasks related to the center's x-x-objectives.

At each training site, agricultural and livestock tasks such as rice farming and Korean beef cattle breeding are carried out, and the products produced are sold at affordable prices through a website that is open to university members and local residents.

In particular, the Korean beef cattle are raised as antibiotic-free, free-range Hanwoo, which are popular among local residents as holiday gift sets.
