CNU was selected as a 'College for Craft and Design Education'.

According to CNU, the craft major of the CNU Department of Fine Arts was selected for the ‘2019 College for Craft and Design Education for College Students’ governed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and hosted by the Korea Crafts & Design Promotion Agency (KCDF). The selected educational institute will conduct training programs including practical training from September to December.

Five universities nationwide including CNU and Seoul National University were selected for the program.

The '2019 Craft and Design Education for College Students' is aimed at fostering creative talents and promoting creative collaboration between craft and design to open up a new future in the traditional culture industry. It initiates new programs to introduce traditional craft manufacturing to existing craft and design programs.

CNU will provide collaborative programs between Professor Kim Cheol-woo and Kim Hyun-joo of the CNU craft department and Master Kim Chun-sik, who is recognized as the Important Intangible Cultural Properties No. 99 in making Naju Soban, alongside his apprentice, Kim Young-min.

In December, the five participating institutes of the project will participate in a comprehensive competition and will hold an exhibition at the Gallery of the Korea Institute of Craft & Design Promotion in Insa-dong, Seoul.

Through such a competition, the Korea Institute of Craft & Design Promotion will select excellent universities from the participating universities in the exhibition, as recognized universities for crafts and design education, and designate them as the fundamental educational institutes at the forefront of craft and design. It also will cooperate with them for systematic craft and design education.

Students who participate in this program will be given certificates of course completion from the Korea Institute of Crafts and Design Promotion. Those who win the competition will receive first Prize from the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism; second and third prizes will also be awarded.
