A former welder in his 70s donated his tools for welding, cutting, and electrical operation to CNU. He made his livelihood and ran his business with those devices until recently.

According to CNU, Ki Young-hwan (76), the former CEO of Su-il Corporation, donated five pieces of equipment, which include a welding machine, an argon welder, an air cutter, an industrial electric dryer, and a rice-cleaning machine, which are worth 11 million KRW in total, to the CNU Agro-Bioindustry Technical Support Center. He said that due to health problems and his age, he decided to close the business.

Mr. Ki said, “They are humble donations, but literally are like my children, which are irreplaceable to me. They have allowed me to make living for more than 40 years. I thought about giving them out to acquaintances before my youngest son told me that they would be helpful for training programs for students in agricultural majors and those who are learning farming skills.”

The decision of Mr. Ki was also influenced by his own experience taking part in the installation of electrical equipment at the former CNU Auditorium, CNU Library, and laboratory facilities at the CNU College of Engineering.

The CNU Agro-Bioindustry Technical Support Center (Director: Professor Han Tae-ho) held a donation ceremony on October 30 with Mr. Ki, faculty members, and students attending, and featured equipment demonstrations with information on handling precautions. Mr. Ki provided management guidance and precautionary rules for safe use of the equipment. The center will label the donated equipment with the name of the donor along with names of tools.
