CNU’s Graduation Ceremony for the fall semester of the academic year of 2018 was held in the Minjumaru Hall on the Gwangju Campus on August 26 (Monday). 1,653 graduates (1,240 Bachelors, 295 Masters, 117 Doctorates, and 1 honorary Doctorate) received degrees in the ceremony.

More than 1,000 guests including President Jeong, faculty members, students, graduates’ family members, and CNU alumni members celebrated the graduations. Excellent Academic Performance Awards were awarded to 70 graduates including Sun Na-eun (School of Business Administration), President’s Honor Students Certificates to 8 students including Kim Duk-jin (Department of English Language and Literature), and CNU Alumni Awards to 3 students including Im Seon-taek (Computer Engineering major) at the ceremony.

In addition, an honorary Ph.D was conferred to Choi Byung-oh, the chairperson of the Fashion Group Hyungji.

President Jeong said in the farewell speech, “Our graduates have taken a defined course in life like a monorail, but from now on they have to walk through an unfamiliar wilderness. It can lead them to unknown aress that do not exist on maps, truly uncharted territories, where they can get lost or wander around. However, they can also find a completely new world to explore and reach anywhere they want to go”.

Jeong added, “Don't be frustrated to find yourself in a track of job-seekers’ routines like career fairs and conventions. You should live as proud CNU alumni with further and wider perspectives. Prepare yourselves with willingness and spirit to encourage you with hope and the boldness to face new challenges”.

To the CNU alumni, leaders of local communities, and politicians, President Jeong asked, “We sincerely worked hard to teach and train graduates. If there is any deficiency or anything that falls beneath your standards in them, please fill it with the wisdom and order of the world. We will continue our efforts to be loved by the local people and to be the pride of the nation and the world”.

For the graduation ceremony, Huh Jung and Noh Dong-il, the former CNU Alumni Chairmen and Song Jong-wook, the Chairman of Gwangju Bank, sent congratulatory videos.
