CNU held the 71st anniversary ceremony at Minju-maru on June 8.

The event was held with about 350 key figures in attendance, including the mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City and members of the National Assembly in Gwangju.

It is a place to retrace the footsteps of CNU, which has been serving the community for the past 71 years and fostering talent through various academic ecosystems, and reveal CNU's aspirations for the next 100 years.

The Hugwang Academic Award, Yongbong-in Honorary Grand Prize, Proud CNU Award, Yongbong Academic Award, and Outstanding Academic Researcher Certificate were awarded to intellectuals of this era who raised the honor of CNU and showed outstanding academic achievements. Awards were also given to outstanding faculty members and long-serving faculty members.

At the ceremony, a proclamation ceremony was also held for the book of the year, Gwangju and Jeonnam Read & Talk to spread local reading culture. Father's Liberation Journal by Jeong Ji-ah was selected as the book of the year through online and offline voting during the month of May.

The afterglow of the ceremony continued at the Night of Yongbong-in held at the Yongbong Convention Hall. As leaders from all walks of life, the reunited alumni shared affection and prayed for the development of their alma mater.

On the other hand, CNU opened in 1952 with five colleges (Engineering College, Agricultural Science College, Liberal Arts College, Commerce College, and Medical College) in the midst of the turbulence of the Korean War. Now, 71 years later, it has established itself as a national base university with 17 colleges on the Gwangju, Hwasun, and Yeosu campuses.

In his commemorative speech, President Jung said, “As it has been for the past 71 years, CNU will continue to faithfully carry out the mission of truth, creation, and service, which are the essence of the university. Please join us in the next 100 years of shining.”
