The consortium of CNU and Jeonbuk National University has been finally selected for the Semiconductor Specialized University Support Project, organized by the Ministry of Education. By securing a maximum of 34 billion KRW in government funding over a period of four years, CNU achieved a remarkable milestone for the cultivation of next-generation semiconductor talent.

The Semiconductor Specialized University Support Project is a national initiative that comprehensively supports the establishment of education facilities and equipment, industry collaboration, etc., for fostering semiconductor talent. It is carried out targeting five individual universities participating independently and three consortiums of universities formed by two-three universities for collaborative growth.

In this regard, CNU established a consortium by cooperating with Jeonbuk National University for the Collaborative Growth Field for universities in non-capital area. The consortium plans to cultivate a total of 420 professionals over four years in the fields of semiconductor for next-generation mobility devices with emphasis on regional key industries such as automobiles, optical convergence, and artificial intelligence.

Previously, CNU was selected as the operating university for the Honam Region Semiconductor Joint Research Institute hosted by the Ministry of Education on May 15. This is another achievement in semiconductor talent cultivation, securing approximately 44.5 billion KRW in government funding for construction and equipment expenses.

CNU President Jung said, “I am pleased that the selection of the Semiconductor Specialized University project will establish a foundation for nurturing key personnel who can lead the activation of semiconductor technology in the mobility sector, which is a specialized industry in the Honam region. We will continue to make every effort to secure opportunities to cultivate core experts that will lead the development of the region and the nation, fulfill the responsibilities of a regional national flagship university, and leap forward as a glocal university."
