CNU’s Research Group for Global Korean Business & Culture, with Prof. Lim Chae-Wan at the helm was selected for Support for Core University Research Centers at the National Research Foundation of Korea. With support from the National Research Foundation of Korea, the research group will receive 2.3 billion won for nine years to conduct studies on universality and distinct characteristics of Diaspora in North-East Asia including in China, Japan, and Korea. The study is planned into three steps: Dispersion of Koreans and Cultural Territories in the Region, Transnational Characteristics of the Korean Diaspora in the Region, and Diaspora Community and Global Communication. The research group, founded in 2002, built a research fundamental while working on a project entitled ‘Research Project and Global Korean Business Network and Korean Culture Community’ from 2003 to 2006. And since 2007, it has collected and arranged data regarding the Korean Diaspora, which was in the peril being lost, through ‘Discovery and DB Establishment Project for Knowledge & Information Resources regarding the 100 years of Modern and Current Global Korean Diaspora’.
