As of March 1, 2005, CNU launched its graduate dental school system (Dean: Prof. Oh Won-man) and established a new college of Nursing Science (Dean: Prof. Choi Soon-hee). The College of Dentistry, established in 1980, has produced 1,533 bachelor’s, 394 master’s, and 138 doctoral degree holders. It has gained its fame as a leader in dentistry education both in nominally and virtually. CNU decided to introduce a four-year graduate dental school system, dealing a blow to the government’s college reform program instead of maintaining the six-year college system. For the first year of the new system, the College recruited 70 students. Under the new dental graduate plan, the hopeful doctors would first have to finish their college education, which usually takes up four years, before applying to dental school. The graduate dental program will take another four years to finish, thus extending the total length of time to complete dental training to 8 years instead of the past six. This new plan would guarantee in-depth dental education to the future doctors. For a successful departure of the new dental school system, CNU has made efforts to develop new curriculums and recruit excellent students with a complete organization of necessary regulations. The educational conditions for dental college students would be greatly improved with the construction of Dentistry Building II and clinical education center on a land of approx. 2,300 pyong, which will be completed in 2007. Besides the environment enhancement, the College will expand cooperative partnerships with leading universities in other countries for student exchanges and student training programs. The College of Nursing, formerly the Department of Nursing Science since its establishment in 1971, has been promoted its status. Through the education of the Dept. of Nursing Science, 1,598 bachelors, 235 masters, and 32 doctors have been produced. Based on this enhancement into a college, the College of Nursing will focus on laying firm ground as a world-class college of nursing equipped with strong competitiveness.
