The research team, led by Kim Jeong, an ocean and marine researcher, produced a considerable volume of cockle through fecundation and incubation in tidal flats near Beolgyo whose cockle are registered as its specialty. The research project with a goal to raise the productivity of cockle has been conducted for more than a year with an annual budget of 60 million Korean won.

The team is going to transplant the whole volume to make a mid-cultivation experiment with the aim at increasing incomes of local fishermen. It also promoted and publicized the results of the research at the Beolgyo Cockle Fair. It plans to continue the research to produce artificially planted cockle in huge volume and hence to conserve the Beolgyo cockle, the first registered specialty among marine products nationwide.
