The Implementation Agency for Culture & Arts Specialization Projects (Director: Prof. Sung Jin-ki, Dept. of Philosophy, College of Humanities) has been selected to receive financial support for its project, which aims to turn the original form of Korean stone towers into digital content and make it available to the industry. The Korea Culture & Contents Agency (KOCCA) is a public organization that promotes activities relevant to the development of the Korean culture contents business including animations, music, character, comics, mobile & internet content, and edutainment content. It has been committed to fostering the growth of the culture content business in Korea and has provided financial support for selected organizations to give a big boost to the cultural content fields. The Implementation Agency for Culture & Arts Specialization Projects (IACASP) will be offered 130 million won ($110,000) for the selected project. Prof. Chun Deuk-yum in the Department of Architecture will take charge of the project as a chief researcher. Prof. Kim Young-ki from Communication, Prof. Na Gyong-soo from Korean Education, and Prof. Lee Chil-woo from Electronics Computer & Information Engineering will participate in the project with five other professional researchers. This project aims at developing the digital content of stone pagodas in Korea as one of the typical Korean culture forms with the nation’s unique history. IACASP will create digital content of stone pagodas, represented by complex combination of images, moving images, and 3D digital data. The organized and stored content will be used as resources for edutainment, marketing, and cultural content industry. IACASP will have the intellectual property rights for the developed content, which can make profits after the production and distribution of the cultural content. Prof. Sung Jin-ki, Director of the IACASP, said, “Only the agency researchers participate in the project, which is expected to contribute to the development of Gwangju cultural content industry. IACASP will play an important role of raising the profile of the Korean culture content industry that is rich in cultural heritage and creative people.”
