CNU held a briefing session for its Information System Strategy Planning (ISSP) at the Conference Room on the 3rd floor of the University Administration Bldg. at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 14.
For a comprehensive and effective strategy planning of university information systems, CNU asked Samsung SDS Co., Ltd. to provide long-term information system strategy planning (ISSP) for CNU. In an effort to encourage university-supporting activities to enhance administrative information system, introduced in 1998, CNU decided to invest 130 million won for setting up the ISSP. This five-year-long program will prevent double investments for the university informatization projects. Information consulting is a design process to enhance an organization's ability in simultaneous and systematic consideration of the organization's strategies, goals and information technologies. The process offers opportunities to optimize the configuration of the organization's resources and to improve efficiency by using ISP (Information Strategy Planning) to design definite IT solutions.
Samsung SDS, a company providing comprehensive services in information system consulting, evaluated current information systems and checked out the problems which need to be solved for the management efficiency of the information systems. After a four-month consulting process, Samsung SDS presented a roadmap of a long-term plan for university development in line with the university roles in the decentralization era. Main strategic goals are divided into three sections: IT for improving administrative services, IT for demanded services, and IT for intelligent community. Fourteen tasks are suggested for the university informatization: reconstruction of the unified administrative information system, establishment of the inclusive education service system, establishment of user-oriented portal system, strengthening channels and services, library informatization, knowledge management system and activation, improvement of database management system, future information-based organization planning, job capacity strengthening, standardized system development, systematization of information technology resources, security environment improvement, enhanced platform infrastructure, and enhanced network infrastructure.
Information in higher education institutions is one of important resources in achieving the institutions' mission and goals. It can be the success factor for the institution to compete with other organizations. Furthermore, the use of information can support and control the academic system so that the institution can provide a better service to its students and staff, as well as to the people outside the institution. Based on the newly developed IT master plan, CNU will be enabled to enhance competitiveness and innovation with other universities left behind.
